Analog & mixed-signal design
The part of the system that touches the real world
Every connected device starts with an analog signal: a sensor, a radio, a power rail. Get that wrong and no amount of firmware will fix it.
My analog work goes back to integrated circuit design, simulating analog blocks for system-on-chip developments. Today I design and develop analog circuits at board level, and because I also write the firmware and software, I design the front end with the whole signal chain in mind.
Simulate first
Circuits are modelled and checked in simulation before a board is ordered, so problems are found on screen rather than on the bench.
LTspice · ngspice
Design to layout
Schematic through to PCB layout, with the layout treated as part of the analog design rather than an afterthought.
KiCad
Whole signal chain
From the sensor or antenna through conversion, firmware and processing, designed together so each stage suits the next.
